QUETTA: President of the Balochistan National Party and former Balochistan Chief Minister Sardar Akhtar Jan Mengal has disclosed that his party’s slain secretary general Habib Jalib Baloch had been receiving threats to his life.

Sardar Mengal, while strongly condemning the killing of Habib Jalib, “very powerful” elements were involved in the target killing of the former senator and the killing was meant to dissuade the BNP from its struggle for the rights of the Baloch people.
” I had spoken to Jalib on the phone and he informed that he had been receiving threats,” he said, ” we do not expect any kind of justice from this government of fake degree holders.”

The former chief minister regretted over Islamabad’s unchanged policy in Balochistan by stating that the policies of the democratic government were more repressive in Balochistan as compared to those pursued by former military dictator General Pervez Musharraf.

“Even during the repressive regime of Pervez Musharraf, people were not killed on the roads. Now, the majority of the people killed on the roadsides are the activists of the BNP,” said Mengal.

The Baloch leader, who is currently on self-exile, said the situation prevailing in Balochistan was very similar to the one prevailing in East Paksitan (Bangladesh) in 1970s when government-baked groups were formed to kill the cream of the local society.

“No one should doubt the powerlessness of the current rulers,” he remarked, ” Those who came to power by using fake degrees cannot grant us justice.”
